CNN Lambasted for Fake Quotes?

Calling all our David Barton and Sarah Palin haters to do their Guardians of Truth thing when somebody appropriates American history for their agenda. So far, nothing from the usual suspects.

Wow. This is a big bust. Hours of right-wing reactionary research reveals that quotes that have been around and widely used for decades, by liberals and conservatives, may have a murky origin. Take that Fake CNN, Enemy of the People! We can only hope that John Fea et. al. (i.e., all the usual suspects, AKA Enemies of the People!), see the error of their ways and retire to monasteries where they flog themselves every day in penance.

I say this for you and not me; you should take a year sabbatical and immerse yourself in Stoic philosophy. You should try to find some peace and reckoning before the big rage-fueled gripper drops you like a Breitbart.

Peace out my dude.

Just having some well-earned fun at the expense of the hypocrites. It's not that they lie, but their concern for truth goes only to the limits of their politics.

And thanks for once again unwittingly proving my point. :-)

To be clear, are you calling John Fea a hypocrite?

Let's see.

I'm sure that Fea will be glad to know you're cutting him some slack.

"...when somebody appropriates American history for their agenda."

Just what do you find objectionable? The CNN quotes, dubious or not, advance relatively uncontested American values, faith in an informed people, a free press and freedom of thought and expression.

As to Barton, he has for decades used mangled and made up quotes and twisted analyses to manufacture a dubious understanding of the American history in a constant political campaign for a specific and very narrow agenda. Not the same.

Tom Van Dyke said...

Yes, the same. And Barton never "made up" a quote. That is a lie.

jimmiraybob said...

"And Barton never "made up" a quote. "

Nice try but I did not accuse Barton of making up quotes. I stated that he "he has for decades used mangled and made up quotes." The made up quotes might also be referred to as "unconfirmed." This is incontrovertible. And yes, there are facts involved.

Tom Van Dyke said...

To be accurate, you should have written "he had for decades..." His amateur mistakes on quote-sourcing have been acknowledged.

Regardless, the silence from the left on CNN's double screw-up is amusing, and damning.

After further review on the field, the use of “has” stands and the Barton team remains off sides by continuing to lie and mislead. Furthermore, the Barton team clearly does make up their own quotes for the express purpose of misleading and tripping the other team in flagrant violation of league practice. It is the ruling on the field: 1,000-yard penalty, 4th down and forfeiture of integrity.

So sad.

As a good friend of mine would say, it’s never too late to examine one’s trespasses against God and to atone. I’m pretty sure that she means before leaving these parts for final judgement. Of course, I’m more prone to a secular rendition of seeking virtue but it all leads to the same temporal place.

“The federal government is to certify with the exact truth for every vessel sailing [in] from a foreign port...the state of health on that vessel, which prevails from which country she sails...[But] the state authorities are charged with the care of the public health.”

Throckmorton took this off an audio clip and did not punctuate Barton's quote charitably and thus misleads his audience. Warren needs to get a life; his petty stalking of Barton once again illustrates my point about the left's "Guardians of Truth."

Their principles go only to the limit of their politics.

Warren is all over some obscure radio show but has no knowledge or interest of CNN's quote fraud. You keep proving my point.

Well, I'm glad that you took a moment and followed the link. Too bad you either didn't read the post or didn't understand it. Maybe our old friend Chris' article is easier to comprehend:

That is not responsive. Inside the cloud, Barton's point holds, that the states were the first line of medical responsibility, not the federal government.

I think it's a crap point but it holds.

jimmiraybob said...

"...that the states were the first line of medical responsibility..."

At the discretion of the federal government.

TJ – “Although the health laws of the States should be found to need no present revisal by Congress, yet commerce claims that their attention be ever awake to them.

Jefferson here states the supremacy of the federal government to assert revisions to the states’ efforts should they fall short of expectations with respect to satisfying foreign governments of the safety of America’s common commerce. There is no explicit or implicit understanding that the states alone should or could necessarily and effectively provide sufficient oversite of their health laws when it came to international relationships or, presumably by applying the principle equally, that of Federal oversight, interstate commerce as well.

Tom Van Dyke said...

Well, I said I thought it was a crap point. And you offered a rebuttal to Barton's argument on its own terms, and pretty much stipulated it was stated correctly, that the states are the first line of public health.

But Throckmorton and Rodda accuse Barton of something he didn't do--change the meaning of the Jefferson quote.

It is they who are the liars.

It's always hard to know if your obtuseness is real or if you're just playing the part of an obfuscating propaganda-apologist troll.

Either way, anyone exploring the links can make up their own minds.

In 2005, Grove City replaced him as director of counseling and assigned him to teach f/t. Around that time as well, he and a fellow named Welton placed an article in Journal of Psychology & Christianity issued in 4th quarter of 2005. (Time was, a queue of about 15 months duration was about the norm if a journal did not specialize in rapid publication, so one might wager the draft was submitted in the summer of 2004, give or take). He seems to have lost interest in his life at that point. It was his last foray into scholarly publication.

He was cold-calling around at one point trying to get Michael Peroutka's speaking engagements cancelled. Mr. Peroutka and his sidekick David Whitney were nonplussed. They'd never heard of him before that.
