Perhaps "instructive," but Frazer's loyalists are almost all Anglican, whereas that sentiment was per Calvinist resistance theory. In fact, I believe Zubly is the only Presbyterian loyalist of any notoriety or consequence.

Frazer's thesis seems to tell us more about his own religious beliefs than the actual religious landscape of the revolution.
BTW, the "motto" itself seems to have been generated by Ben Franklin, perhaps as part of a propagandistic fraud.

But it would make sense for Franklin to spread it. He used to do similar "parlour tricks." Start with quoting the Bible, but then slip in his own prose and people couldn't tell the difference.

It's the "sentiment" of the widely-disseminated Huguenot tract Vindiciae contra tyrannos [1579], which is why I used that word. Also another argument against Frazer's thesis, which seems to credit/blame Locke, who came 100 years later.
The Calvinists had been at this resistance thing for 100s of years before the American revolution.
