Mormon Movie on Joseph Smith

The following is a brief movie produced by the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints (Mormons) on the life of Joseph Smith. I post it here for three reasons:

1.) Smith and the Mormon movement are an important component to American religious history, which is a key focus of this blog.

2.) I believe it can provide some general insight into the doctrine of "the restoration", which has been a topic that I think we may have misrepresented/misunderstood here at AC (not to mention many other blogs).

3.) It is made and produced by the Mormon church, and it has only been in recent years that the church has released these videos to the general public (as you can see it is on Youtube). Clearly this provides a pro-Mormon view of things but at least it gives you the Mormon angle on restorationism and Smith himself, as opposed to what are often misunderstood sources.

Anyway, I hope you will enjoy!

Good afternoon. My sincere apologies, but I just can't do it. I tried to watch this, but just as my attempts at reading the bible seemed to be a waste of time, I can't see how an entire hour of this nonsense is different.

I'd most gladly enjoy an honest summation of the details, but, as an atheist, I have little patience for supernatural feats announced by humans.

@trog69:

I've never seen you on this blog but I think you need to know a couple of things:

First, we at this blog have zero interest in proving or preching any religion. We are interested in HISTORY, that's it. Mormon history is an important component to American religious history and that is why this video was posted.

Second, your inability/unwillingness to watch or read religious material is your own business. As I said, we aren't preaching at this blog. If you want to know the history this is the place for you. If you want to debate religion or your "little patience for supernatural feats announced by humans" then you are invited to visit the THOUSANDS of other blogs devoted to such debates.

Third, this video has historical value in that it presents a unique (and yes, one-sided but still worthwile) take on an important era in American religious history. If you want to debate the history depicted in that video (that you agree/disagree with) please do.

Personally, I was deeply impressed with the video and want to thank every person involved in its production.
.
Deep within the human being there is a hunger for truth and honesty in all things.
.
What is true nonsense is that any one would turn their back on what others gave their life to uphold.
.
Thanks to Brad Hart for posting it.

Right on, Brad. My biggest objection to the anti-religious is that they usually know nothing about what they're criticizing, only echoes of what they've heard from other critics.

You can't discuss any book with someone who's only read the Cliffs Notes, and bad Cliffs Notes at that. Thx for setting the record straight.

Makes me want to go to the Hill Cumorah pageant again this year... haven't been there since 2005 or so.

I guess I was cranky when I posted here previously. I realize I should have kept my very off-topic views to myself, and just watched for the historical information. I realize that I can learn about this without believing every detail.

Tom Van Dyke, what does my non-belief in the supernatural have to do with any books, especially anything to do with the Mormon cult?
