And you are likely guessing correctly about Obama's theology, but the matter he has been public about is the emotional; emotionalism in religion was well-known in Christian religion in the 18th Century and I think most of our FFs (orthodox or otherwise) were unimpressed. Enthusiasm was a powerful movement (or set of movements) but was not favored in the most respectable or thoughtful classes.

I confess that I did intentionally distort your well-taken point for my own amusement.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12165084874363214919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1237087217187172116.post-87689417545377538952009-07-08T10:19:50.579-06:002009-07-08T10:19:50.579-06:00Daniel,

I'm thinking more that Obama and Donahue consider themselves "Christians," believe in a personal God, that there is something "special" about Jesus but probably don't believe in things like original sin, the trinity, incarnation, atonement, eternal damnation, infallibility of the Bible.Jonathan Rowehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04079637406589278386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1237087217187172116.post-39885137666820885892009-07-08T09:41:35.240-06:002009-07-08T09:41:35.240-06:00I dunno about the FFs comfort level with the theol...I dunno about the FFs comfort level with the theology of Obama or Donuhue. A theology that highly values standing there with tears running down my cheeks isn't necessarily 18th century enthusiasm, but it would probably be a bit too close for the comfort of many of the FFs.Danielhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12165084874363214919noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1237087217187172116.post-53817996792149267882009-07-05T11:43:09.468-06:002009-07-05T11:43:09.468-06:00Thanks!Thanks!Jonathan Rowehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04079637406589278386noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1237087217187172116.post-4420719009442294302009-07-04T13:17:25.606-06:002009-07-04T13:17:25.606-06:00well done jonwell done jonKing of Irelandhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11793825722325763371noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1237087217187172116.post-18672796232121515042009-07-04T09:16:20.730-06:002009-07-04T09:16:20.730-06:00Thanks, Tom.
